Unlocking a Windows Workstation Using a QR Code
This use case provides a step-by-step guide for configuring Windows 10/11 workstation unlocking using the Hideez Identity Cloud, the Hideez Desktop application on the workstation, and the mobile app Hideez Authenticator.
Scenario Overview
In this scenario, a user approaches a locked Windows workstation, selects the Hideez Desktop user account, and a QR code is displayed on the Windows login screen. The user then opens the Hideez Authenticator app on their mobile phone (Android or iOS), scans the QR code, and successfully logs in to the workstation using either a local or Active Directory account.
Implementation Steps:
Register a Hideez Tenant If you don’t already have a Hideez tenant, register one. Detailed instructions for tenant registration can be found [here].
Create a Hideez User If you don’t already have a user in your Hideez Identity Cloud tenant, create one. Instructions for user creation are available [here].
Install Hideez Desktop on the Workstation Install the Hideez Desktop application on your Windows 10/11 workstation and connect it to your Hideez tenant. Installation and configuration instructions can be found [here].
Approve the Workstation Once the Hideez Desktop app is successfully connected to your tenant, the tenant administrator must approve the workstation before it can be used. Follow the instructions for workstation approval [here].
Install Hideez Authenticator on Mobile Install the Hideez Authenticator app on the user's mobile phone. Installation and configuration details are available [here].
Configure Password-Based Authentication Set up password-based authentication in the Hideez Desktop. Configuration instructions can be found [here].
Test Workstation Unlocking Test the QR code-based login process to ensure the workstation unlocks correctly.
